Scrub away your worries and smooth out the edges with this invigorating peppermint shea butter scrub. This scrub is perfect for using on your legs, arms and hands! I especially enjoy using this after a day spent out in the garden. It softens rough calluses and smells fresh and clean.
Begin by infusing your olive oil with the herb or herbs of your choice. There are 2 primary methods to do this. Either the longer, traditional method or the quick method using heat.
Traditional Oil Infusion Method
The traditional method requires placing your herbs into a glass jar, filling it up about 2/3 full. Then continue by filling the jar up with olive oil, making sure to completely cover the herbs. Place the lid onto the jar and store away from direct sunlight. Over the course of 6 weeks or so, the medicinal properties as well as the fragrance will infuse into the oil. Once this time has elapsed, strain away the herbs and store the oil in a jar, it’s ready to be used!
Quick Oil infusion method
The quick method to infuse oil with herbs requires a bit more care and attention but expedites the process substantially! In a double boiler, combine your herbs and oil in the top bowl. Bring the water to a boil and then immediately reduce to a low simmer. Allow the herbs and oil to slowly infuse overnight 8-12hrs. If your stove has a tendidcey to fluctuate temperates, this might better be made during the day so as to keep a watchful eye on the oil so it doesn’t boil and fry and in turn, ruin, the herbs. Once the time has elapsed, strain and it’s ready to use.
In a bowl, whip up the room temperature shea butter for several minutes. Once light and fluffy, mix in the herbal infused oil. and essential oils if using. Continue to whip for several more minutes to fully incorporate. Finish up this easy scrub by folding in the 1/2 cup of sugar. Store in a water-tight contain and it will last for months!
