Herbal Honey Balm Recipe

1/2 cup organic coconut oil
1/4 cup dried lavender
1/4 cup chamomile flowers
2 tbsp beeswax pellets
1 tsp local raw honey
Essential oils

Begin by infusing your oil with the dried lavender and chamomile flowers. If using the long method, place your oil and herbs in a jar, cover and shake well. Place in a room temperature dark place. Shake every other day for around 6 weeks. After the time has elapsed, strain the herbs from the oil.  Give the herbs back to the earth once strained.

If you’re impatient like me and would like to expedite things, place your herbs and oil into the top of a double boiler. Bring the water below to a simmer and then reduce to low and allow the herbs to infuse 10 hrs or over night. Be sure to keep a watchful eye on the oil to ensure it doesn’t get too hot and burn the delicate herbs.

After infusing the coconut oil using either the long or short infusion method strain the herbs and then pour the oil into a double boiler over a low simmer. Add in the beeswax and melt until fully combined.
Remove from the stove and slowly stir in the honey and continue to stir for several minutes to ensure it incorporates. Let the mixture cool for 10 minutes then stir again for several minutes. Add in essential oils of your choice at your discretion. I added chamomile and lavender essential oils to further bring out the herbs naturally beautiful smell. Store your herbal infused honey balm in a small jar or salve tin.
