Botanical Name:  Rosmarinus officinalis

Components:  A member of the mint family, this perennial shrub is native to the Mediterranean. It is an ancient herb, known for its medicinal and culinary uses since early times. The dried leaves retain their pungent aroma and flavor, boasting warm, woody characteristics.

Overview:  Aside from its role as a culinary superstar, rosemary possesses a wealth of beneficial health effects. One of the earliest recorded uses of rosemary was as a cognitive stimulant that improved memory and focus. It has most recently been linked to stimulating cognitive activity in the elderly, as well as those suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia. The aroma of rosemary has been linked to improving mood and relieving stress. The active components in the plant are antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and anti-carcinogenic in nature, which strengthen the immune system and protect the body against infection. Rosemary is also known to soothe the stomach, stimulate blood flow, and relieve pain.

Uses:  May be used in teas and tinctures, however it is most commonly used in cooking.
