Components:  Cloves are the unopened flower buds of a tropical evergreen tree. They are pungent and highly aromatic, warm and slightly peppery.

Overview:  Valued for medicinal purposes since ancient times, cloves are an effective painkiller and have been known to alleviate intestinal distress. Eugenol, the powerful phytochemical found in cloves, kills bacteria, fights free radical oxidation, thins the blood, and deadens pain. Clove is the active ingredient in many mouthwashes and preparations designed to ease tooth pain. Dentists often use clove oil as both an anesthetic and an antiseptic.

Uses:  Dried flower buds whole or powdered are predominantly used as a culinary spice, but can also be added to tea blends or used as an essential oil.
