Botanical Name: Ulmus rubra
Components: Indigenous to North America, the medicinal qualities within the rough, reddish-brown bark of this tree was used by Native Americans to heal both inside and out.
Overview: Slippery elm bark contains large amounts of mucilage, a gummy fiber that soothes inflamed mucous membranes inside the mouth and gastrointestinal tract. Due to the antioxidants in slippery elm, it is a great remedy for wounds, burns, boils, psoriasis, dermatitis, and other external skin conditions. New research suggests that the herb’s immune-boosting benefits and anti-inflammatory properties may help relieve pain associated with breast cancer, including that from the negative side effects of conventional treatment.
Uses: Used in teas, infusions, and poultices. Rarely encapsulated.
