Botanical Name: Camellia sinensis
Components: Peony white tea is a fine Chinese white tea made from the young unopened buds and two leaves beneath the bud of the Da Bai and Narcissus tea plants. It is not derived from the peony plant; It actually gets this name from how the buds and leaves uncurl as they are steeped and resemble a peony flower. Contains slow-releasing caffeine.
Overview: Peony white tea is packed with antioxidants that may help increase heart and circulatory system strength, increase metabolism, protect teeth from bacteria, combat skin aging, and defend bones from the onset of osteoporosis. It contains lots of slow-releasing caffeine but also a compound called Theanine that makes you feel calm.
Uses: For the perfect cup of Peony White Tea: put 1-2 teaspoons of tea loose in cup; heat fresh filtered water to 170˚F and pour 8 oz over tea; steep for 2-3 minutes; strain tea leaves (or leave in for a cup of tea with character); enjoy hot or cold!
*Tea may be re-steeped for a second or third cup but you may need to add an extra minute of steep time.
