Botanical Name:  Piper nigrum.

Components:  Peppercorns are the fruits of a climbing vine that is native to southern India and Sri Lanka. Piper nigrum is a perennial vine that can take eight years to reach maturity, and it will bear fruit for up to twenty years after that. Black peppercorns are harvested when they are still green but have reached their full size, and are dried in the sun for days until they turn black.
