Herbs for fighting infections

Did you know that herbs can kill viruses? Natural antiviral herbs help block viruses from developing. But there’s also antibacterial and anti-fungal herbs that fight all kinds of infections. Herbs are packed with immune-boosting vitamins and minerals and they don’t come with a list of potential side effects like pharmaceuticals! Herbs can help with fighting the flu, or made into herbal teas to soothe your symptoms, and at this time of year, they’re helpful to keep on hand.

Always consult with your doctor whenever a serious infection is present. But here are some ways to treat or prevent infections with herbs:

How to Use Powerful Herbs for Fighting Infections

Herbs for Ear Infections

Garlic is a natural remedy for ear infections, and one of the strongest antiviral and antibacterial herbs. You can crush garlic and steep it in oil for a few hours, then add just a couple drops of the oil to your ear to help kill the bacteria. Coconut oil is a good option to pair with garlic because it’s antiviral and antibacterial.

Herbal Antibiotics for Infections

If you’re dealing with a bacterial infection instead of a virus, then try cloves or echinacea. They can help reduce inflammation from the infection and fight off bacteria like strep and E. Coli. You can drink them in tea or take capsules to fight internal infections. For external infections, try making a poultice.

Herbs for Fighting Candida

Candida is a normal, naturally-occurring yeast that can sometimes grow out of control and wreak havoc. Boosting your gut health will help, as will probiotics and a sugar-free diet. Calendula and oregano are powerful anti-fungal herbs that can help kill the yeast overgrowth, too. You can create tinctures with them by steeping in 100-proof alcohol for a few weeks. Once the tincture is ready, it’ll be in its most potent form to remedy candida.

Herbal Remedies for Sore Throats

Marshmallow root is one of the best natural remedies for sore throats because it has a soothing gel-like texture when steeped in water. You can make a marshmallow root infusion by steeping the root in cold water overnight and then drinking it as needed the next day. You can also try gargling a small amount of sage and apple cider vinegar mixed with water to help kill the infection.

Herbs for Urinary Tract Infection

Marshmallow root can also help protect the urinary tract from infections, as can a garlic tincture. Both are potent enough to help stave off and flush out anything that might try to cause a UTI. Try also increasing your vitamin C intake to help keep your immune system boosted and make your urine more acidic to prevent UTIs. Rose hips have a high concentration of vitamin C, making it ideal for prevention.
